Mezzanine flooring

A mezzanine floor is a level that sits between the main floors of a building and is therefore not included in the total number of floors. A mezzanine is often low-ceilinged and projects as a balcony. The phrase can also refer to a theatre’s lowest balcony or the first few rows of seats in that balcony. The word mezzanine comes from the Italian word mezzano, which means “middle.”
